Oh, the night, serpent like, It will stalk your room An ever-shifting specter in the gloom So, I understand When you summon things That hunt you down and haunt you in the end We don’t need a Savior Burning bush, blood favor We just need, we just need a friendly gathering right now Oh, how serpentine It will kill you if you let it bite too deep So, don’t let it in No, don’t let it win All that darkness, isolation and regret We don’t need a Savior Burning bush, blood favor We just need, we just need a friendly gathering right now You’re not alone Though you may be filled with doubt, the sky is dark, and no one’s out, you’re not alone.

Home To You 06:23
The road is dark Cold and unknown But I, I’m on my way The winds have kicked up To blow me astray Blowing tumbleweeds, ice on all the streets, slowing down my speed But I won’t be late I’ll keep my word and come home to you The love that you give is honest and true When things seem hopeless, or you feel alone Just know that I’ll come back for you If I should break down, stranded a lone Know that my next steps will be back to you It’s the holidays, so please trim the tree Cause sitting there, ‘ll be you, ‘ll be me And we will have the best time this year We’ve covered great distance, emotional space Ain’t nothing, gonna keep us apart and if the night, should swallow us whole I will walk my way, if you will hold the light back to you When the world’s frozen, the animals grown thin The world hushed in isolation We’ll let the sunlight in I will feed birds with you, squirrels and the cats that loom Hungry in the shadows of trees I’ll move the Sun for you, lasso a star or two Hold you when the world goes astray So we will have a perfect holiday And if the world, should try to keep us apart Our love will stay strong and true It’s the holidays, so please trim the tree Cause sitting there, ‘ll be you, ‘ll be me And we will have the best time this year

about

Duncan Barlow is known for his work in Endpoint and By The Grace Of God as well as his literary output, and we are so glad to be able to contribute to part of his solo musical works as well!

These two songs were crafted in late 2018 specifically to serve as the endcap to our seven inch series. Duncan asked specifically for this position in the series because he wanted to put together a unique holiday record, and he did just that. While nothing like the aforementioned musical outfits, these songs are beautifully haunting, somber and showcase what a terrific and prolific artist Duncan truly is.

These songs are more for those who look at every day of the year with a bit of skepticism, and the holiday season is no different for them. This is a holiday record for the lonely and disenfranchised, so to speak.
